How To Make All-Natural Peanut Butter

I never knew just how easy it was to make your own peanut butter at home. Seriously all you need is peanuts. Sure you can add salt and a little sugar if you like but we have come to prefer plain old peanut butter with just a pinch of salt.

We go through so much peanut butter at our house that this peanut-butter making process could be completed in my sleep. I hope this inspires you to get your hands on some high-quality peanuts and try it for yourself.

P.s. You’ll never go back!!

  • First, you’ll need raw, blanched peanuts.

Most bulk foods stores carry these, you can ask them if they have any in the back. You can also buy them on Amazon here and at nutstop here. I buy them by the 20 lb cases because we go through SO MUCH PEANUT BUTTER.

  • Now you’ll want to pre-heat your oven to 350′ F. Grab a cookie sheet or two or three! I usually use 2 cookie sheets at a time.

  • Scoop the raw peanuts onto the cookie sheet, just however many fit. I usually get about 8 cups per cookie sheet.

  • Now put the cookie sheets with the peanuts on them into the hot oven and set a timer for about 30 minutes. Mine always takes closer to 45 minutes to get golden brown because I roast so many at a time!

  • Once your timer goes off, you’ll want to stir them and check the color. You want them golden brown. To light- you’ll have albino peanut butter, do dark, it’ll taste burnt.

Once they are the right color, let them cool.

Here comes the fun part!

Blend!

I have a high-powered Vitamix blender that I absolutely love. I have not tried to make peanut butter in any other blender so I can only attest to the tremendous success I have had with mine.

  • So go ahead and place roughly 4 cups of the roasted peanuts into your blender

  • Turn on low

  • Once it becomes a peanut “powder” it’ll likely kinda get stuck and stop blending.

  • Grab your plunger, and start plunging!

  • Turn the blender on high!

This whole blending process takes time, for me about 5-7 minutes from start to finish.

Keep plunging away!

After the peanut butter is on high for a few minutes it should start looking like peanut butter. The key is to plunge, plunge, plunge. It won’t turn into peanut butter by itself. It needs help!

  • Once it starts turning into the consistency of peanut butter you want to turn the blender off and scrape down the sides. We don’t want chunky-monkey peanut butter now, do we?

  • Once it starts coming together and blending more on its own without so much plunging, just leave the blender on high for a good 3-4 minutes and let it blend away! This will make it super creamy and smooth! And also very hot!

Viola! At this point, you should have peanut butter. Seriously it is so easy!

Pour into a glass container and enjoy!

It stays shelf-stable and doesn’t separate like that nasty store-bought stuff either!

I have no idea how long it will last on the shelf because we honestly eat it so fast! But my guess is AT LEAST 6 months. In all the years of my peanut butter making, I have never had a jar turn rancid on me!

If you enjoyed this blog and have had success please share with others! The world needs to know how easy it is to make scrumptious peanut butter.
