Our Favorite Montessori Toys

How many of you moms have spent money on toys for your child only to have them just play with the box it came in, or have them lose interest literally after 3 minutes of playing?

I’ve been there and done that so many times! And it’s so frustrating! Eric has never been one to play with toys but would rather pull up a chair and actually get involved with what I am doing. Some days it can be really frustrating but it pays off so well especially when I am 9 months pregnant and he gladly bends down and loads the washer + dryer for me, helps me sweep the floors, gathers the trash and cleans his little table to cleaner and a rag. I know it sounds bizarre that he is actually capable of helping around the house but I promise you it’s actually been a really big help some days!

I’ve always had a desire to enable him with educational toys, toys that actually help him developmentally and give him skills that he can implement in everyday life. Hello Montessori! I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of that concept but it’s a whole world of toys and crafts that are made specifically to educate and stimulate your child’s brain in a beneficial way! It’s been a game-changer for us and Eric and he loves and plays with his Montessori toys far more than his obnoxiously loud annoying toys snatched from the target toy isle.

For those of you who are just getting started with Montessori toys, I wanted to provide you with a little guide that would have helped me tremendously at the beginning! I was actually looking into getting a subscription box with Montessori toys in it but it was way too expensive so I just spent some time researching what would best suit Eric’s age and they are all exactly what I was wanting!

  1. Lacing Beads These here are super fun although he can’t quite string them himself he loves bringing me the little wooden pieces, figuring out the colors and placing them on the thread!

  2. Color and Shape Wooden Block Stacker This one is great at teaching him shapes and matching skills.

  3. Coin Box Great at encouraging hand-eye coordination as well as helping them learn to count the coins as they place them in the box.

  4. Wooden Numbers Sorting Puzzle Board We love this one so much! I prefer to sit down and put this together with Eric since there are so many pieces and also so many opportunities to learn as he assembles it. He can learn colors, shapes, animals, and counting as well!

  5. Geometric Stacker Good ol’ ring stacker! Eric loves dumping this thing upside down and pairing all the same shapes on the pegs!

  6. Train Set I don’t know how Montessori specific a train set it but this is hands down Eric’s favorite form of entertainment. I kid you not, he has played with his train set and only his train set the entire day! We just recently got him an expansion so now he also has this set and this little tunnel as well.

I hope you enjoyed this little round-up of toys! Honestly, they have given Eric so many hours of entertainment when other toys just simply did not interest him!
